Happy Summer. It’s muggy and humid here in New York, but I have to say I’m sort of loving every minute of it after the crispness of the San Francisco summer climate. Here are 15 songs that I’ve been particularly listening to of late.  A bit of everything here, hopefully it’ll keep you on your toes.

1. Escape Tonight —He’s My Brother She’s My Sister

2. Hard Smart Beta—Starfucker (It feels like I”m pretty late in the game on the Starfucker train, and I think I am. Anyway, can’t stop listening to the entire “Starfucker” album. This is a particularly great one)

3. I’m still in love with you—Al Green (Not sure if you know, but I am a complete Al Green addict. Absolutely. Well, this is one that I’ve been listening to about 200 times a day, instead of the usual 100 I reserve for most of his songs)

4. Come over—Estelle

5. Needy girl—Chromeo (So, I am seeing Chromeo on Saturday LIVE and couldn’t be more excited. I love the 80s vibe of Chromeo)

6. Bklyn Masala — Masta Ace (Not only is this track off an album called “A Long Hot Summer” but it also bomb dig…and hey, I’m in NY.)

7. Dreaming of you—The Coral

8. Think it Through—Brother Ali

9. Dirty Girl—Felt (How long have I loved this song? Many many moons. The imagery is incredible “them cappuccino fingernails wrote my order down” is a personal favorite line. Listen listen listen. )

10. Harlem Swing—Django Reinhardt (I love the music of this classic early to mid 20th century guitarist so much that my dog is named Django. Granted, it’s also just a great name…)

11. Heart of Glass-Blondie (The story here is that I kept hearing this in restaurants and coffee shops and recognized it but couldn’t place it. After my third encounter with it, I just asked the barman to remind me what it was. And here we are!)

12. Touch the Lightning — Lemon Sun (Promise me you’ll watch the video too?)

13.The Way I am—Ingrid Michaelson (short but very sweet. “I’ll buy you rogaine when you start losing all your hair”— doesn’t that lyric warm your heart?)

14. Hold Yuh—Gyptian

15. Heat Wave—Martha and the Vandellas (too great and too appropriate not to include)
