On Nov. 22nd, Kanye West will release his newest album “My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy.” Although there is little I can say about this album and Kanye that has not already been said (ok there is actually probably not one thing that hasn’t been said), I do feel the need to mark this momentous musical occasion with some discussion and reflection on Kanye. I feel it best to summarize my thoughts into a pro’s and con’s list on Kanye West and see how people respond.
Pro 1: Kanye is from the actual city of Chicago, much like myself, and I saw him there before he got huge at the House of Blues and there can be no debate…it was amazing.
Con 1: His ego has gotten too big to ever perform in that small a venue ever again
Pro 2: Kanye was an art student before he got into music and features unknown artists through his album art work thus catapulting them to stardom
Con 2: Kanye took it upon himself to make a thirty-plus minute music video about a phoenix rising from the ashes
Pro 3: Kanye does make incredible music that is infectious to the ears
Con 3: He shows no appreciation for other types of music other than the kind he is making….need I bring up a certain young country singer and the MTV video awards??
The list could clearly go on but I think I have gotten the point of my confusion across. I most likely will buy this album and contribute to the media monster that is Kanye West.
